Why do you do what you do?
I get to live in one of the last relatively intact temperate ecosystems on earth. Today, there are greater numbers and a greater diversity of wildlife in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem than there has been in the last 150 years. Yet the human population and pressures on the land are growing rapidly. If we don’t take action to protect what’s left we could lose all of that.
What inspires you?
150 mile long mule deer migrations, bison digging through 3 feet of snow to find food, elk bugling in the fall, and howling wolves.
What’s one thing everyone should know?
I can eat a whole jar of pickles in one sitting. Gross, I know.
Last meal on Earth?
Wild harvested Elk Steak and Morel Mushrooms, on a bed of locally raised greens and root vegetables.
Quote you live by?
“We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.” Aldo Leopold
