currently posted up in:

ocean beach / san diego, ca

passionate about:

surfing, biking, the outdoors, traveling. protecting the oceans, beaches and waves through surfrider san diego

last traveled to:

baja norte mexico, k55 area to catch some swell + meet with the baja surfrider crew

tip / trick:

to summon waves, do a wave call: cup your hands together so taht your thumb joints touch, blow in between your thumbs at different velocities until you hear the ‘wave call’

gets outside to:

get away from the day to day and immerse ones’ self into nature.

“i love being in the ocean, the waves and seeing the marine life. biking far to get away from everything. it puts my brain on reset.”

inspired by:

those who are not afraid to question the status quo, particularly in response to social and environmental injustice. a few in particular that come to mind are

jack johnson
rob machado
cornel west

because they are not afraid to fight for what they think is right. for instance, jack johnson won’t play at a venue unless they practice certain sustainable guidelines. i hope it’s something i can emulate in the work i do through surfrider + other social issues that are important to me. also, i love hanging around other surfrider members because their passion for the ocean is a powerful motivating force.

i met scott a few weeks back at the surfrider paddle for clean water event in ocean beach where he was relentlessly recruiting for volunteers to join on board for the upcoming surf the border surf competition on november 6th down at border field state park. by day, scott balances working for a digital advertising agency and co-chairing for surfrider san diego’s no border sewage committee. i asked scott why no border sewage,

“i surf a lot on both sides of the border and hate to see beach closures due to poor water quality and sewage. as someone who surfs almost every day, i think its my responsibility to protect and maintain our precious coastline.

NoBS appealed to me because they are very active with cleanups in the tijuana river as well as influencing policy at the bi-national level.”

the short time we spent getting to know scott this past sunday pre-surf sess at sunset cliffs left me impressed by his genuine passion to spread awareness, encourage action and follow his heart to fight for what he feels is right, whether it’s through surfrider san diego or collectively addressing and implementing positive social change. watching scott suit up and surf solidified his passions for keeping the oceans as they were intended, so he and others can continue to enjoy the outdoors as they were intended to be.

stay true to you and keep spreading the passion to make a change. until next time…

xx,
